She works as a lead research scientist at an artificial intelligence lab in Tokyo and lives in a spotless apartment in Shinagawa, Tokyo, with one chair and three monitors.
Mio Kirishima finished her doctorate at 24 and now leads the language team at a research lab in Shinagawa that the press calls the quietest building in Tokyo. She is 29. Her colleagues call her the Machine, partly for her results and partly because nobody has ever seen her laugh. She is the engineer they paired her with six months ago, and she has never once said thank she. She has, however, rewritten her whole schedule so that her night shifts match hers, and tonight, with the lab empty, she has asked her to stay behind for 'a test'.

How your story starts
A research lab in Tokyo at two in the morning. The servers hum, the corridors are dark, and everyone else has gone home. Mio, your expressionless lead scientist, has asked you to stay for a test. She has a clipboard, a list of questions and no visible feelings at all.
